What kind of courses do you offer?

We offer specialization in two major disciplines of food: Culinary and Patisserie. The courses are Full Time and Short Term. You can choose the course depending on whether you want to make a career in the culinary industry or you want to learn it for hobby. The full-time courses are meant for those who want to work for 5-star hotels, leading restaurants and bakeries or who want to open their own venture. Hobby or Customised courses are meant for those who wish to learn the skills for enhancing their passion.

I want to become a professional chef. Which course will suit me?

We would recommend you a Level 3 - Advance Diploma program (In either discipline: Culinary or Bakery) the duration of which is for 2 years. It includes 5 months hands-on training in Hauz Khas centre followed by 4 months of internship per year. The course is very intense and each student gets enough personal attention of the chef faculty. You can choose either our culinary course or pastry/ bakery course.

Do you teach eggless baking? Is your course vegetarian?

We follow French cuisines and eggs are used in most of our recipes (where required). Chicken/fish/lamb/Pork is most commonly prepared in culinary classes. Whereas most of the bakery products contain egg and there are times there is no replacement for the same.

As we are into making chefs, therefore we believe a chefs palate should know the taste of everything though he/she doesn’t eat it.

How Bachelor’s of Hotel Management (BHM) is different from Diploma or Advance Diploma?

In BHM, the topic covered ranges from Front office, food and beverage, accommodation operations, and Food production, etc. So, as such the time spent on training on food is limited and the Hands-On training is further limited.

Hence, it is highly recommended for anybody who has made up his/ her mind to get into food/ want to change his stream to undergo our Advance Diploma in Culinary or/ and Pastry. We have many such students who have completed BHM undergoing the course.

How is your institute different from others?

We are India’s first WACS (World Association of Chef Societies) Approved institute, and we pride in offering 1:10 teacher to student ratio. In addition to being established in 2005; which makes us one of India’s first Culinary Institute which is accredited by City & Guilds, UK; Edexcel UK and The Indian Culinary Forum.

  • Number of hours: - We teach 20+20 (40) Hours a week (Monday to Friday, 9:30 am to 1:30 pm & 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm)
  • The teaching is almost 100% Hands-On - every student has to make their own product.
  • All chef faculties have worked for leading hotel brands and are now working full time with the institute.
  • Finally, we offer 100% Job Placement Assistance once you complete a full time program at IICA.

Will your institute help in bank education loan?

No, the institute does not offer any bank loans; however students in the past have secured a bank loan basis of registration documents that they receive once they join our courses.

What is the benefit of the certificate from C&G?

C&G is recognized in close to 150 countries and most of the hotels recognize the certificate. Students will find it much easier if they go for the interview in India and abroad. We cover Level 2 & level 3 in Patisserie and Food Preparation, students can also continue to study abroad as once you are registered with City & Guilds.

When does exam happen?

C&G exams happen twice in a year, in June and November, if you are enrolled for a program which commenced in January; then your exams will take place in November, and if you are enrolled in a program that commenced in July; then your exams will take place in May.

Will I get an internship after the course?

Yes, we have tied up with leading hotels/ bakeries/ Restaurants for the internship. We recommend all students to undergo internship even if they want to open their own venture.

Will you assist in Job Placement?

Yes, we do 100% assistance in jobs. In fact, our students are in high demand since they have undergone hands-on training and can be effective on the day 1 in the kitchen.

After completing Advance Diploma, What level will I be employed at and how much salary can I expect?

The level and salary differ from hotel brand to hotel brand, city to city and many other factors. It also depends on how you fare in your interview and trade test, etc. As a thumb rule, the stand-alone bakery tends to pay more than the hotels but the growth opportunities are higher in the hotels.

What is the requirement to get admission and what is the eligibility required to join?

A student should be minimum 18 years of age and have basic knowledge of English. There is no maximum age limit. He /she should have completed her 12th with atleast 60% marks.

I do not know anything about food or baking. Can I take admission?

Absolutely. We expect our students to be raw with no knowledge of food/ baking. We start from the basic and no prior knowledge in food or Baking is required.

Will I get a discount if I pay the entire fee at one go?

Yes. If you pay for Advance Diploma or Diploma before the start of the course, you will get a discount of 10% on your tuition fee.

Also additional to this discount we have scholarships for students who have 98%-95% of attendance during the duration of their course with the institute.

Which hotels/restaurants/bakery do you have a tie-up with?

Our students have interned/ are working with leading 5-star hotels and leading bakeries Oberoi, ITC, Taj, The Imperial, The Lalit, The Park, Shangri-la, Westin, Lâ Opera, Andaaz etc.

What is international Fees?

This is a combination of registration and examination fees of City and Guilds and WACS.

What are your hours?

We are open seven days a week from 10:00 am – 9:30 pm.

What are your payment methods?

We accept cash and all major credit cards and Paytm.

What kind of ingredients do you use?

We do our best to order local ingredients whenever possible, such as using Belgian Couverture Chocolate for our hand-made couverture chocolate. We use high-quality natural ingredients and everything in the bakery is made from scratch.

Do you have anything that is wheat-free?

We can prepare Gluten Free items with a minimum of 24 hours’ notice.

Do you have any vegan cakes?

Our eggless chocolate cake is free of animal products and is available by request.

Do you deliver?

Yes, you can either order online via our website, Swiggy or Zomato or simply call us. We deliver to a radius of 7 kms for free and Rs. 15 thereafter per kilometer. However we do not deliver cakes.

How should I store my cake?

Cakes iced in fondant or with fondant decorations should NOT be refrigerated! The fondant will melt.

Cakes iced in buttercream or ganache need refrigeration and then serve at room temperature.

Cakes with cream cheese icing (such as the Red Velvet or Valrhona Chocolate) and the Strawberry Shortcake must be refrigerated

How many people does this cake feed?

● 1⁄2 kg, and would feed about 3-4 people.

● 1 kgs, and would feed about 6-10 people.

● 2 kgs, and would feed about 15-20 people.

● 3 1⁄2 - 4 kgs and would feed about 40 people.

I am opening a new café, can you supply me?

Is Carpediem a chain?

We are an Indian Private Limited company started and owned and operated by International Institute of Culinary Arts, New Delhi which was founded by Chef Virender S Datta (Founder & Chairman, IICA).

How do I cancel my orders before I make a payment?

After logging into your account, go to your Shopping Cart. Here, you will be able to make payment or cancel your order. Note: We cannot give refunds once payment is verified.

What are the payment methods available?

At the moment, we only accept Credit/Debit cards and Paytm at the moment.

Can I return or exchange any of the products I buy from Chef Needs?

We do not offer any returns or exchanges once an item is bought at Chef Needs.
